Washington CEO Magazine Recognizes Snoqualmie Winery And Other Business Leaders in Sustainable Business Practices

Washington CEO Magazine honored 25 Washington companies at its first Green Washington Awards held May 21, 2008 at Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle. Snoqualmie winery, a leader in sustainability and organics in Washington State, was awarded runner-up out of the 10 entries in the category of Natural Resources/Agriculture.

“As part of the winery’s longtime commitment to maintaining and advancing the natural quality of the Northwest, our team takes an active interest in the local community and environment,” said Winemaker Joy Andersen. “It is Snoqualmie’s belief that taking good care of vineyards and local environment are essential steps towards making the best wines possible.”

Snoqualmie was one of the first wineries in Washington to craft wines from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) certified organically grown grapes, and as of 2008, has the largest certified organic vineyard in the state.

“Our winners distinguished themselves through their strong efforts to address sustainability in the workplace, in the community and in the hearts and minds of their employees and customers,” said Bob Ritter, Washington CEO publisher. The evening featured a conversation with former Governor and U.S. Senator Dan Evans before a sell-out audience of 380 guests.

A distinguished panel of judges determined the top performers from nearly 140 entries. Judges were Joan Crooks, executive director of Washington Environmental Council; Jon Naimon, CEO of Light Green Advisors: Ben Packard, director of Environmental Affairs at Starbucks; Gifford Pinchot III, president of Bainbridge Graduate Institute; William Ruckelshaus, Madrona Venture Group; Doug Walker, board vice chair for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and vice chair of The Wilderness Society.

About Snoqualmie

Under the leadership of winemaker Joy Andersen, Snoqualmie has been producing award-winning wines for more than two decades. Founded in 1984, Snoqualmie offers consumers a variety of classic wine varietals as well as the “Naked” wines, crafted from certified originally grown grapes using organic practices. These wines fit perfectly with Anderson’s philosophy of capturing the natural essence of the vineyard and the pure elegance of the varietal in the bottle.
